Cellist Matt Zalkind, will collaborate with pianist Jason Hardink, violist Roberta Zalkind and U associate professor of violin and chamber music, Hasse Borup, for a concert on Wednesday, June 29 at 7:30 p.m. in Libby Gardner Concert Hall at the University of Utah. Zalkind will also lead a master class at the U, open to the public, at Dumke Recital Hall that same day at 12:30 p.m. Tickets for the recital are $15 for general admission, $5 for students and $10 for seniors and U faculty and staff.
Zalkind has been invited to the U the School of Music’s Artist-in-Residence for the 2016 Summer Chamber Music Workshop, made possible by a Fine Arts Fees Grant. This is the eighth edition of the event and the program has become one of the most popular in the state for serious string and piano students. It is modeled after the famed Music Menlo Chamber Music Institute and is an intensive five-day program designed for immersion in the art of chamber music.
Zalkind holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Juilliard School of Music and a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Michigan. A Salt Lake City native, Zalkind has performed throughout the United States and abroad as a recitalist, soloist and chamber musician. He has performed with the Moscow Chamber Players, the Albany Symphony, the Hongzhou Philharmonic, the Utah Symphony, the Tongyeong International Music Festival Orchestra, the Music Academy of the West Festival Orchestra and the Juilliard Symphony Orchestra.
