Jan. 24, 2017— Undergraduate students at the University of Utah and Utah State University will showcase their research for Utah lawmakers on Tuesday, Jan. 24 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the rotunda of the Utah State Capitol.

Research on Capitol Hill, now in its 17th year, gives lawmakers and the public a glimpse of the breadth of research programs at the state’s two public research universities and reinforces the value of state-funded higher education.

Students presenting at the event practice engaging in public outreach and polishing presentation skills. By explaining their research in clear, non-technical terms to event attendees including legislators, junior high students and parents, presenters practice communicating their work succinctly and accessibly.

This year, presenters hail from broad disciplines in the physical, health and social sciences. Project titles include “The effect of acute exposure to ambient particulate matter air pollution on arterial stiffness in older adults,” “Aeolian sediment transport on the Bonneville Salt Flat” and “Health, health literacy and healthcare utilization among Muslim women in Utah.”
